Modern Cognor rolling mill – an investment with the future and environment in mind
One of the most significant industrial investments in recent years has been completed in Siemianowice Śląskie – the construction of a hot-rolled bar and profile rolling plant owned by Cognor Holding S.A. The retention tanks and sewage systems made of PE and PP were supplied by Uponor Infra.
The project, located at 8 Pawła Stalmacha Street, is not only an example of modern engineering and energy efficiency, but also a demonstration of how responsible water management can support the sustainable development of industry.
The new rolling mill is a technologically advanced facility with an estimated value of PLN 800 million, of which over PLN 300 million was allocated to construction works carried out by the general contractor – STRABAG Sp. z o.o. The design was handled by Gliwickie Biuro Projektów Budownictwa Przemysłowego Projprzem S.A., and the water and sewage works were carried out by Rewital-Serwis Sp. z o.o.
The facility was designed to achieve a maximum production capacity of 450,000 tonnes of steel products annually. It will be one of the most modern rolling mills in Europe – featuring a fully automated high-bay warehouse, reduced material losses, and optimized energy consumption. In consideration of the environment, solutions have also been implemented to reduce emissions and energy consumption. Commissioning is planned for mid-2025.

Smart water and sewage solutions – retention in service of efficiency
A key part of the entire investment was the expansion of technical infrastructure, including the water and sewage network. The retention tanks and sewage systems made of PE and PP supplied by Uponor Infra played a crucial role in this area.
The site is equipped with a battery of seven parallel Weho retention tanks made from PEHD DN2400 SN8 structural pipes. Each tank measures over 53 meters in length and has a capacity of 238 m³, resulting in a total volume of 1,666 m³.
These tanks not only capture excess rainwater but are also equipped with a flow regulator (q = 260 l/s), which stabilizes outflow and prevents sewage system overload during heavy rainfall. Additionally, an integrated pumping system was installed to enable the use of stored water for irrigating green areas, thus supporting the plant’s pro-environmental efforts.

Weho retention tanks – flexibility and durability for generations
Weho retention tanks are lightweight structures resistant to chemical corrosion and mechanical damage, with a service life exceeding 100 years. Thanks to their modular design, they can be quickly assembled even in challenging soil conditions, significantly reducing project execution time.
As part of the investment, in addition to the tank battery, the following were also supplied:
• 3,100 meters of WehoTripla PP SN8 gravity pipes in diameters DN160–DN400
• 950 meters of socketed Weholite PE SN8 pipes in diameters DN500–DN1200
• Over 35 manholes, including kinetic and eccentric models
PE and PP systems are not only leak-proof and easy to install, but also resistant to ground settling and dynamic loads – which is particularly important in industrial areas.
The construction of the Cognor rolling mill is a prime example of an investment that combines advanced technology, environmental responsibility, and modern infrastructure. The Weholite retention tanks serve not only a functional but also a strategic role – protecting the plant from the effects of heavy rainfall, enabling rational water resource management, and supporting environmental protection efforts.
